Chapter 5- The Mind, Body, and Soul

The mind, body and soul are a critical part of our growing process. The importance of the three should be taught to all children and should not be neglected by ourselves.

Our souls came from a separate place unknown to man, a place not found on any map or globe ever manufactured. It is beyond man’s comprehension, but not beyond his senses. The memory of our beginning dwells in our heart and at times, when allowed, will make the soul dance with delight. However, when put to the test of reality and reason it will cause the soul to be torn between the love of one and desire of another.

We were born into this world without possessions. There was nothing with which to measure our value except our souls. The goodness of one’s heart and the honesty of one’s mouth were all that mattered until the prints of mankind made their marks on us, leaving us to bargain for value using our souls as the gambling chip. We have become trapped in a time when the importance of a man’s honor and value has become extinct and has been replaced with the size of his wallet. We have exchanged our happiness for a dream package by society that we will always be one rung short of when climbing our so-called ladders of success. It is time for us to climb down our ladders and build our homes. For that is where real success lies.

Our love for God was of most importance to us at the time of our birth. As we grew we began to exchange that love for our own selfish gain. We substituted His rules with our own, making them fit into a world we created. We forgot He had already created a world with a set of rules for the benefit of mankind. We try to rationalize our wrongdoings to make them right. Meanwhile, we put God second best in our lives and destroy the world around us, along with the lives of others. When you live your life for self without thinking how your actions or words will affect others, you detract from the meaning of life. We are supposed to lead His flock home, not chase them away.

The creation of our world could, for the most part, be explained by scientist and the reality of Christ could be robbed from us. However, once you have felt His touch, seen His smile on the faces of mankind, and heard His words in your heart you realize a truth that will never be able to be explained. Faith! We are loved and watched over by our Father who has set a path for each of us to walk. We must stop trying to bring Him down to the level of the world and instead try to rise to the level of the heavens.

Our souls hold a treasure more valuable than any man’s wallet. It is a treasure that cannot be stolen. It gives us power, wisdom, and love. It fills our senses with the awareness of the Lord. When allowed it will guide and protect us. It is a symbol of the heavens and a part of our Father. It is the Holy Spirit. It amazes me how many people are unaware of the treasure that lies within themselves. A gift you can reach out and touch. A gift you can share. It is our body that protects this treasure. A temple created for the purpose of good. To have the Lord Jesus Christ dwell within us is certainly an honor. To be aware of His presences is a gift. He is a guest in our home. He is the beauty of our soul.

Your soul and the Holy Spirit bonded from the time of your beginning. It is a bond no man can break, not even ourselves. We are symbols of our Lord striving for the good of mankind. If we stop striving, we will become less and soon our souls will cry out in pain. To strive means to recognize that there are limits: limits on our behavior. We were given a freedom that this nation will honor to the end of time, a freedom that was not first presented by man but by God, free will. Along with it He gave us a conscience to protect our value and meaning. Freedom when abused refuses to recognize what is decent and beautiful. Instead it exploits beauty and diminishes it. It rips through our lives and leaves in it path victims of destroyed self-esteems.

Self-worth is something hard to come by. It is hard to obtain and easy to lose. We rob people of their self-worth everyday by lowering our expectations of what acceptable behavior is. Stealing a person’s self-worth is like picking the petals off a flower. You take all the beauty away and just leave a stem. Some may be fighters and try to gain back their self-worth, while others just don’t have the energy and decide to be petal pickers themselves.

We are not a bad society. We are just a society that has a lot of built-up hurt. It is time for a healing to take place. It is time for us all to gain back our respect for ourselves and others. Living is not about who can get ahead faster and who has the most money. It is about helping each other and sharing with one another the celebration of life. We can’t point fingers and blame anyone because the responsibility lies in all our hands. Please treasure your soul.

The mind is the central control system of the body. It interprets the actions and words of others. It is the memory bank of days past ant he dispatcher of our emotions. Our minds are fragile and only know of the information they are given. That information is used to form our opinions, make judgements, and help learn to perceive what is and isn’t functional. It is our responsibility as adults to provide the younger generation and ourselves with the positive and healthy information needed to develop healthy minds. A mind can only be healthy if it is given the appropriate means.

Think of your mind as being a seed at the time of your birth. If that seed is fed and nurtured with the beauty of life, then it will bloom into a flower. If we feed our minds with information that will not help us to think positively and grow, we will reap weeds. We all know how long it takes to get rid of weeds. Sometimes a lifetime. You can cut them down and pull them out. But they will return when fed with negative information. When they return they will double in size. The root of the problem remains. The only way to get rid of the root is to deal with the problem and be healed. Weeds only bring pain. But a single flower will add beauty to life. We can be part of a garden of flowers or we can be the weeds that destroy that garden. The choice is yours.

If we realized what miracles we are and what a gift this life is, our attitudes towards ourselves and others would be a lot better. We would conduct ourselves like ladies and gentlemen, treating all with the dignity they deserve. We would love and laugh while cherishing every moment. What we have become is sad. A world full of empty bodies wondering around looking for love and acceptance in all the wrong ways, scarring our souls for what is just a moment of relief that adds to a lifetime of pain.

What can we give ourselves and others that would help stop ourselves from using our bodies to punish our souls? If we bought a house we would put our best effort forward in making sure the house was safe, comfortable, and beautiful for the guests that visit. These guests would be welcomed with honor, served with pleasure and given our best manners. So why do we treat ourselves any less? My body and yours is a house to our soul and our guest is God.

Teach your children how precious and special they are. Teach them that they are God’s delight. Tell them of a Savior who is waiting with open arms, who will give them all the love and acceptance they will need without having to sacrifice any part of themselves. He will enhance their lives and make them complete. Once they find Him they will never want to let Him go. He is the meaning of love. He is the meaning of life and we, my brothers and sisters, are His sons and daughters.

Our souls, minds, and bodies should be cherished. They are the jewels in our crown. If we neglect one, we also neglect the others. To cherish one will enhance the others. You are the keeper of all three. You are the owner of the deed. It is your choice whether to plant a garden of flowers or weeds. But please remember your choice will affect others around you, whether your garden is flowers or weeds. They will spread over the earth and either kill or enhance the gardens of others. We have responsibility to both ourselves and mankind to protect these gardens because we are part of God’s family.
