Proverbs 14:8
8 The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways, but the folly of fools is deception.
Analyze your life, emotions and actions for areas of deceit. How are you deceiving yourself? How are deceiving others. Deceit places a shadow over God’s light and love. Deceit blocks your relationship with God from growing and becoming all, it can be.
Deceit is ego driven. You want to get something or for something to go your way, so you deceive. It is not always a conscious act. That is why it is important to spend time in prayer and listening to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Self-reflection and conversations with God help you shed light on the areas of your life that are still in darkness.
If you want to grow spiritually and see movement in your life commit to working hard, to be honest with yourself, with God, and all you are in relationship with.
One seed of deceit will grow into an unmanageable mess leading you places you shouldn’t be. God didn’t design you to become fractured and fracture relationships that you need. Deceiving yourself pulls you away from God's purpose for your life. It allows you to do what is easy and comfortable. God is calling you to do and be so much more. Face the deception. The root of deception is fear.
How do you correct this? Face fears with honesty and with forgiveness. Ask for God to help you see the truth. Ask for His forgiveness, the forgiveness of others and and the ability to forgive yourself. Hold yourself accountable and build strong boundaries that keep you away from deceit and in the presence of God.
Prayer
Father God,
You are the voice of truth. Help me to recognize when I am not being honest with myself. Help me to see the reason for the deceit. What am I distracting myself from? What truth do I not want to see? Gently lead me where You call me to be and give me not only the strength, but the motivation, to face my fears.
In Jesus' name,
Amen
