Psalm 62:5
Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
my hope comes from him.
Do you feel undisciplined? Do you feel inadequate compared to others? You don’t feel like you can get enough done or hold it all together. You tell yourself you are failing at life.
The truth is you are crushing it. Your intent is not to be lazy or unproductive. Stop shaming yourself. Did you get up this morning and do more than stare at a wall? Are you wearing clothes? Did you eat today? Did you work? All these things take discipline. You got things done. Can you do it all and do it with perfection? No, you can’t. No one can. Can you grow in discipline? Yes. Anything you focus you can grow in.
The enemy wants you to focus on what you haven’t accomplished and what you can’t manage to get done in a day. He wants you to be overwhelmed and lacking joy. He wants you to shame yourself for things that really don’t matter. Shame depletes you. Shame sucks the feeling of motivation out of you. If he can get you to shame yourself constantly, he knows you will eventually stop trying. Why try when you can’t be good enough for yourself.
God calls you to stop shaming yourself. Be kind to yourself. Be realistic. Don’t set yourself up for failure by expecting too much of yourself. It is more than alright to not be busy all the time. God wants you to enjoy the day and be thankful for all you have and all you can do. God doesn’t expect you to be perfectly disciplined. Be open to learning, revisiting, setting boundaries and holding yourself accountable.
Prayer
Father God
Thank you for all I have and all I can do. Thank you for what I can accomplish daily. Forgive me for neglecting to enjoy the day. Forgive me for expecting myself to complete a to-do list before relaxing and feeling worthy. Help me to live in the moment and not for each accomplishment or task. Help me to see you in the day and enjoy all you have blessed me with. May I recognize the whisper of shame before I start to believe it as truth.
Amen
