Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Are you allowing others to take advantage of you or treat you poorly? When you allow someone to do so it may be done out of fear. You fear you will lose their approval. They won’t like you. They won’t do what you want them to do. They won’t behave the way you want them to. You expend all this energy to take care of someone else, so they fit your needs and love you and support you. Why not just fit your own needs and love yourself? Rely on you. You are gambling when you are banking on someone else. You walk into a situation expecting something from someone who may not be emotionally available. You have already determined how things should work out and are disappointed when others fail to show up and fit your needs. Yet you let yourself let you down. You let yourself not show up. You let yourself talk to you negatively. You let yourself complain about you and you let yourself not follow through.
You give so much power to others. Take it back. It is yours. Take back the power and ask the Holy Spirit to take control and guide you. Rely on Him. You can tap into the Holiest of Holies and yet you decide to rely on human beings. You have so much faith and expectation that they will come through for you and then have little faith and expectations in God. God is the only one that is one hundred percent reliable. But He is also not manipulatable? And there it is. You can’t manipulate God to do what you want. He sees all, knows all, and does what is the right thing for you every time. He is truthful and does not tell you what you want to hear, but what you need to hear. So, you bank on the humans. Because you want things done your way and to hear what you want to hear.
The enemy wants you to put all you hope and faith in others. He wants you to rely on others for approval and fulfillment. He wants you to believe that without others believing you can do it, or you are the best, you can’t, and you aren’t. He wants you to believe humans are reliable and God is not. He convinces you that if a person came through once for you, you can depend on them for everything. He has convinced you to believe they love you even when their actions show otherwise. Somehow he is able to get you to believe the opposite in regard to God. If you don’t get what you want from God, then He is unreliable. When God shows up, is consistent and a constant in your life, but doesn’t shower you with everything you desire, the enemy convinces you God just doesn’t love you. The enemy is always working overtime to convince you that God just doesn’t measure up.
Put your faith and expectations in God. Give your heart to God and trust Him with all. When God says, “you can do this!” Believe you can. Don’t respond with “I am not capable?” Your capability comes from God. Don’t question if God is capable of making you capable. Of course, He is. Don’t block God’s work. You block it by, not only not believing in yourself, but seeking others to prove you right. You go back to the same people and expect them to show up the way you want them to when they have proven time and time that isn’t going to happen. Then you react the same way time after time. Hurt. Disappointed. Depressed. The result is your blocking God. Change your people and/or change your expectation of them and your reaction. Change you.
If you are expecting a change in your life without working on change in you, you will be disappointed. If you are expecting it to be easy, like it seems to be in the movies and on TV, you will quit. If you are expecting others to be loving and supportive to you and when they are not you blame yourself, you are being delusional. Don’t be easily defeated. Be confident in God. God does extraordinary things. Recognize how extraordinary God is. Be expectant! Expect much of God.
Prayer
Father God,
Thank you for doing extraordinary things in my life. Thank you for loving me where I am at and loving me enough to call me to be more. Forgive me for my lack of faith and for expecting little of you. You are reliable, consistent and constant. Here is my heart. Speak to me. Help me to regroup and continue with Your plan, relying totally on You. May I partner with you, so I can learn to fully support and love myself. May I turn to the Holy Spirit, for comfort, in times of despair and questioning and not seek that comfort from anyone else. Grow my faith and help me to live each day expectant of all You have planned.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
