Luke 6:31
Do to others as you would have them do to you.
Do not compare yourself to others. You can’t judge someone else’s journey or how God chooses to get another person to their destination. You don’t know how God plans to use them in this part of their life. Their journey may seem easier, faster, less unencumbered than yours. But you don’t know the intricate parts of it. They have purpose in their journey just like you do.
The enemy wants you to compare your journey to others. He wants you to question God and feel like you are being treated unfairly. He wants you to believe God doesn’t love you as much as anyone else. Life looks so easy for your friend, your family member or your co-worker. How come things come easy for them? How do they manage it all? Why is your journey so different? The enemy wants you to see others, that don’t strive to have a relationship with God, as having it easier. He wants you to see them as better off. He wants you to conclude that you don’t need God. He wants you to quit God.
What do you get for not quitting? What do you get for being committed to God, for needing Him? Is all this worth it? The intimate moments you have with God are timeless and priceless. That is your treasure. The core of your being would be restless without your relationship with God. You know this because when you do drift and not focus on this relationship you tend to feel lost. You can’t deny Him because you have known Him. You are intertwined with Him. Others may never have known Him. So, they don’t know what they are missing. They have been called but don’t hear Him. People hear Him for different reasons, at different times, based on where they are at and when they are ready. Until they answer that call they will have a God size whole waiting to be filled. They don’t fully understand that gaping whole. They will try to fill that missing piece with everything but God until it is just too painful to deny Him anymore.
God uses you. Your journey is not a careless mistake. Your journey, your life purpose, was planned by God. You are here for a reason, to become your full self. Your very presence is a gift to those around you. You are part of everyone’s journey you encounter. How do you show up? The enemy may be fiercely attacking you, God’s warrior, to ensure you don’t show up. The enemy attacks to prevent relationships with God, to stop relationships with God from growing, and to stop you from being a bridge to bring others to God. Show up with the mindset you are fighting for God. Show up with love and forgiveness in your heart. Do not compare yourself to your brothers and sisters. God knows them intimately. God loves them unconditionally. It is not for you to judge what they do or do not deserve. Ask God to shed light on what you are feeling. What is God putting on your heart? Search and listen. You, whether you like it or not, may be being used to bring someone closer to God. You cannot question this. You cannot control it. Do what God asks without any expectations. You are here to serve. Just love. Love from where you are at. Love with honesty and openness. God will do the rest.
Prayer
Father God,
Thank you for my planned journey and moments with you that fill me with peace. Thank you for calling me to be my full self. Forgive me for the times I compare my journey to others. You have a plan for each of us. It is not for me to judge your plans. Forgive me for believing I am being treated unfairly. You are a compassionate Father. You only do what is best for me. Help me to understand that every day is a gift that is used to grow our relationship. Use me as a bridge to bring others to you. Fill me with kindness and compassion. Help me to be humble, love with an open heart, be forgiving and not judge. Help me to show up as me, your child, so others may know you.
In Jesus name,
Amen
