Reluctant Acceptance

Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Are you reluctantly accepting something? You know this is the way things are going to go or must go, but you are not happy about it. So, you are accepting it, but doing so while brooding. God has decided. He is calling you to follow. You have not yet found the joy in it or the wisdom. So, you go through the motions. Your mind may know this is the direction you need to move in, and this is the truth you need to accept, but your heart has not caught up yet. You are still tied to the past. Afraid to have faith that different is a blessing.

The enemy wants you to reject or at least reluctantly accept what God has asked you to accept. There is no joy in it. There is still doubt. Without full acceptance you still have one foot where God wants you and another foot waiting to see if He changes His mind. You have not fully accepted the truth. You live in acceptance for a moment, but you waiver. You keep returning to what may be possible. The enemy wants you to hold on to hope that the past can be fixed. He wants you to question God and not listen to what He is telling you. The enemy’s goal is to keep you from moving forward and to keep you from God’s blessing by having you doubt the future, doubt God, and doubt yourself.

God asked you to move forward without indecision. You can do this. Take it one breath, one thought and one moment at a time. Without willing acceptance, you will not have peace. You will not move forward. You will keep second guessing. Have faith that God knows what He is doing and have patience to be still and wait.

Prayer

Father God,

The journey has been long. It has been exhausting. There has been so much to learn, to change and to accept. Forgive me for my reluctant acceptance of what is and what You desire. Forgive me for for my impatience, constant questioning and looking back. Help me to grow forward. Help me to have unconditional acceptance of what is and what will be. So much is different. You have been there every step of the way and will continue to be. Thank you for holding me up and for being an ever present constant. I may not really know love or life at all but You do and that is enough.

Amen
