John 14:20
20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.
Do you feel unloved? Do you feel forgotten? Try taking a step back and looking at things differently. You are loved. Look for signs of love. Perhaps you want to be loved a certain way and are missing all the ways you are already being loved. You are focused on what you don’t have or are not getting instead of all there is.
Just because someone doesn’t show up loving you the way you want doesn’t mean they don’t love you. They may be pouring love into you and you may be missing it. They may not be spending time with you the way you think they should, but that doesn’t mean they don’t enjoy you. Making assumptions of others based on what you think should be leads to negative thoughts and attitudes.
The enemy gets you distracted with what you think love should look like. He convinces you that if love doesn’t look that way you aren’t loved. He whispers, “if they loved you, they would do this and they wouldn’t do that,” “they would say this and not say that.” He gets you to expect and rely on perfection. No human can measure up to that. He knows that. His goal is to get you to give up on others and yourself.
You can’t rely on humans to show up perfect. Humans weren’t built that way. You can rely on God. He shows up. He is consistent. His love is unconditional. He is the definition of love. Love is something to continually strive toward knowing the only way is through Him.
Trying to control what love looks like and how it shows up won’t work. Let go. Spend time in silence with the Holy Spirit. This time focuses you and guides you in love. Appreciate what you are being given and it will grow. Take the time to recognize the love that is coming into your life. Focus on that abundance and not areas you feel are lacking.
Remember His goodness.
Remember His love.
Remember His grace.
Prayer
Dear Father God,
Thank You for always being faithful to me. Thank You for helping me to remember Your goodness, Your love, and that You are constant. Forgive me for when I neglect to see all the love that surrounds me. Forgive me for failing to see the many ways love shows up in my life. It may not look like I expect, but it is present. Help me to have grace, grace for myself and for others. When it gets dark and I can’t seem to believe in the light may I remember You are there.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
