Roots

Roots

Colossians 2:7

rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

God draws you near. He is guiding you. Are you listening? He is working to build a strong foundation for you. One that can weather hardships and help with direction. Where is your focus? Is it on God’s way or your way?

At times God asks you to be still. Be still so He can work within you. You have been planted where you are for a reason. God is building your ability to sustain. He is rooting you in His way and His word. Focus on the journey and not the destination. It is a journey of preparation. Lean into the preparation that has taken place so far. You have come a long way, learned a lot and will find that your roots are strong. Your preparation will lead you to find you can withstand storms. The storms may surround you, but your inner peace remains. Roots allow you to stay grounded during times of chaos. They allow you to trust in God and leave all in His hands. Build strong roots by deciding, with God, how you want to handle conflict, how you want to handle uncomfortable situations and difficult choices. Each time you rely on God your roots get stronger.

At times God asks you to move. You must be willing to move so God can do His work within you and through you. Move in discomfort, move when you are unmotivated, move when you don’t want to. You may not think you are making any progress, but God is.

The enemy wants to distract you from where you are rooted. He wants to bring guilt, pain, and self-pity into your life. These things are like poison. You must stop these actions before they become daily habits. The enemy wants to prevent God from working within you and through you. His goal is to shut you down. If he can get you focused on what others are doing and saying, then the enemy gets you to fail to stand tall and stay rooted. He wants you to believe that the actions and words of others can change and define who you are.

Nothing can change who you are because of where you are rooted. If God has planted you there, that is where you will remain. Even if you become static, you are still planted. You may lose focus on God. You may neglect to remember your purpose. But you will never lose your place in His heart. You will always have a way back. God is an awesome God. Be humble. Give Him honor and praise. Give Him credit for all that comes from you that is good. In everything you do you must remember God. Be committed to returning to the Father when you stumble, no matter how hard it may be.

Prayer

Father God,

Thank you for working within me and through me. Thank you for a strong foundation that sustains me. At times I neglect to see that you have planted me here for a reason. There are times when I question Your way. Forgive me. Help me to remember you are a God that sustains. May I focus on you, not the destination. May I be still when You call me to be still and move when I am called to move. May I stand tall, stay rooted and remember You in everything I do.

In Jesus name,

Amen
