Silence

God of Wonders

Psalm 46:10

Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Sometimes God is silent. It doesn’t mean He has left you or gave up on you. He is not absent. He is preparing you for the next phase. He is asking you to wait, have faith, dig deep and know He is God. It is a test of faith. He is building your strength, your endurance. The stronger you are the more He can use you. The silence is a holy time.

The enemy sees the silence as an invitation to rev up his attacks. So, he works on sneaking in. You are paying attention to life over here and he slides in a side door. Before you know it, you are under attack and grasping for relief. The enemy doesn’t stop attacking. When all is going well he works hard to find a way in. When all is going well, and your guard is down he slivers in and starts to work on you. He chips away. He introduces stress. He introduces you to self-reliance. Quietly and methodically he pulls you toward relying on yourself. He gets you to believe only you can solve all problems, but at the same time gets you to believe the problem is too overwhelming to solve. He applies pressure. He intensifies the pressure. He pushes you in the direction of being self-absorbed. You get so self-absorbed you have nothing to give anyone else, not even yourself. You suffer. You were not built to be all consuming and disconnected from God. You were built to be active in God’s creation and joined intimately with the Him.

God wants you to be able to recognize the enemy at work and resist him. He wants you to be able to pivot towards Him and recognize He is your safe spot. The faster you recognize the enemy at work the faster you react and shut him down. Your reaction time will improve the closer you get to God. Be consistent in being in constant communication with Him. Bring everything to Him and take time to listen. Even in His silence God is communicating something. Is it wait? Is it be patient? Is it have faith? Is it endure and know relief is coming? Is it simply, no? God uses all means to reach us. It may be through silence. It may be through celebration and it may be through tragedy. He is always chasing us and reaching into that darkness to find us. He is always working to keep you close and call you to become more and do more. He is calling you to keep to the plan, His plan.

What is He calling you to do? What is He calling you to be? What is He calling you to change? How does God want you to make a difference? God has a plan for you and you need to let that plan work. You tend to get frustrated and doubt in the times of silence. You tend to think the plan will never unfold and it is taking too long. Don’t question His timing. His timing is perfect. His timing is just that, His. Let His plan unfold how it needs to unfold, in darkness or in light. Let it unfold in celebration or in tragedy. Let it unfold in Him asking you to wait, Him saying no, and in Him pushing you to grow. The maker of the universe, the maker of you has this. Have faith. All is well, even in the silence.

Be vigilant. Be aware. Embrace the silence and see it as a holy time. Wait for it. Good things are coming. Growth is coming. Holiness abounds. God is gently silently singing. Alleluia!

Prayer

Father God,

Thank you for the silence. Thank you for stretching me and calling me to be more. Your holiness is everywhere. You surround me with your unfailing love and never leave my side. Forgive me for not being in constant communication with you. Forgive me for being self absorbed. I wander from you, get lost and blame you. Forgive me for that. Help me to find my way back to you and stick to the plan, your plan. Help me to hear your call and follow. You are in the silence. I will celebrate the silence knowing you are always there.

In Jesus' name,

Amen
